Strategic Communications Officer

About the role

The Office of the Chief Electoral Officer (Elections Ontario) seeks a Strategic Communications Officer to ensure consistent, accurate, and accessible communication across all public‑facing channels. Reporting to the Manager, Media & Outreach, you will craft corporate materials, executive messaging, and support media relations for a trusted, non‑partisan institution.

Key responsibilities

• Develop, draft, and edit corporate publications, key messages, and executive communications aligned with legislative and operational requirements.
• Collaborate with multiple internal stakeholders to gather information, maintain tone consistency, and manage approval workflows.
• Coordinate with the Communications Division to ensure clear, unified messaging across all platforms.
• Lead, track, and report on communication projects, representing the team on committees and working groups.
• Provide backup support for media relations, including drafting media materials, monitoring coverage, and responding to inquiries during peak periods.

Required profile

• Minimum five years of experience writing and editing publications for public audiences.
• Proven ability to translate complex or technical content into plain language.
• Strong analytical, problem‑solving, and organizational skills for managing complex projects.
• Experience supporting media relations in a public‑sector environment.
• Legal entitlement to work in Canada.
