Staff Security Engineer, Defensive Cyber Engineering

About the role

Okta is looking for a Staff Security Engineer to join its Defensive Cyber Engineering team. In this role you will protect Okta’s environments by designing, implementing, and managing security solutions that safeguard the workforce, endpoints, and corporate data.

Key responsibilities

• Serve as a security subject‑matter expert for solution engineering, architecture reviews, security assessments, and vulnerability mitigation.
• Lead technical efforts to evaluate, design, and deploy new enterprise security systems and feature enhancements.
• Build, maintain, and enhance custom automation and cloud infrastructure using Terraform or similar tools.
• Develop integrations with security APIs and cloud platforms to enforce controls and streamline workflows.
• Collaborate with Security, Business Technology Engineering, and Product teams to ensure consistent security posture across the organization.

Required profile

• Hands‑on experience with enterprise security tools such as Okta, CrowdStrike, and Palo Alto suite covering EDR, CASB, DLP, MDM, SASE, and SSPM.
• Proven track record automating security controls and workflows using a cloud‑first approach.
• Strong communication skills for interaction with technical staff, leadership, and external vendors.

Required skills

• Python (preferred) and scripting languages such as Bash, PowerShell, or Go.
• Terraform and other infrastructure‑as‑code tools.
• CI/CD pipeline integration for security automation.
• API development and cloud‑native technologies.
