Solar Technician – Utility-Scale Sites

About the role

Spark Power is seeking a Solar Technician to maintain and service utility-scale solar and battery storage facilities in the Southern Alberta region. The role involves hands-on work on electrical and mechanical components, ensuring safe and efficient operation of renewable assets.

Key responsibilities

• Follow health and safety policies, conduct safety documentation, tailgate meetings and obtain electrical work permits.
• Perform technical troubleshooting and preventative maintenance to maximize performance and production.
• Execute energization/de-energization and lock-out/tag-out (LOTO) procedures.
• Interpret schematics, blueprints and OEM maintenance requirements (e.g., NETA MTS, CSA Z463, NFPA 70E).
• Complete daily digital reporting and documentation of all work performed.
• Maintain site cleanliness and organized spare-parts inventory.
• Participate in on-call weekend service rotation and overtime as needed.

Required profile

• High school diploma; post-secondary education in electrical or mechanical fields is an asset.
• State-certified Journeyman licence or equivalent is a plus.
• Valid driver’s licence with a clean record.
• Ability to lift up to 75 lb and work in adverse weather conditions.
• Positive attitude, strong work ethic and willingness to learn.

Required skills

• Electrical and mechanical troubleshooting.
• Interpretation of schematics and blueprints.
• Knowledge of the National Electrical Code (NEC).
• Familiarity with LOTO plans and safety procedures.
• Digital reporting using mobile applications.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word and Outlook.
