Software Engineer – Python & PL/SQL

About the role

Scotiabank’s Global Banking and Markets Engineering team is looking for a Software Engineer with strong Python and PL/SQL expertise to enhance its Risk and Margin platform within Prime Services Technology. You will collaborate with business users, architects and cross‑functional engineers to deliver high‑impact solutions for capital‑markets products and analytics.

Key responsibilities

• Work closely with end‑users and business teams to gather requirements, perform gap analysis and define specifications.
• Partner with Architecture to design and integrate new features and enhancements.
• Develop, test and deploy production‑quality code across the full project life‑cycle.
• Design and implement database schemas and write deployment scripts using the Accelerator pipeline.
• Create and automate functional, non‑functional, regression and performance test sets.
• Support solutions in production, refactor legacy code and improve end‑user experience.
• Communicate technical concepts to both technical and non‑technical audiences.
• Participate in Scrum ceremonies and, when needed, coach or train end‑users.

Required profile

• 4+ years of recent backend development experience with Python and PL/SQL.
• Strong knowledge of relational databases such as PostgreSQL, Microsoft SQL Server or Oracle.
• Experience with Windows batch scripting and Agile development practices.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering or equivalent experience.
• Understanding of capital‑markets operations (front, middle and back office) is a plus.
