Shelter Diversion Worker (Temporary)

About the role

BGC Okanagan is hiring a Shelter Diversion Worker on a temporary basis to help youth in crisis find safe alternatives to shelter. The role involves crisis intervention, developing safety plans, connecting youth with community resources, and preventing homelessness.

Key responsibilities

• Collaborate in case management using Youth Assessment and Prioritization tools.
• Work with counsellors and natural supports to develop personal service plans for housing objectives.
• Provide housing‑focused life‑skills training such as meal preparation, housekeeping, personal care, and finance.
• Identify and connect participants with community social, economic, recreational and educational services.
• Transport participants to appointments and assist them during visits.
• Establish safety, prevent emergencies through person‑centered care and early intervention.
• Recognize, analyze and respond to potential emergency situations.
• Offer emotional support to participants, families and natural supports.
• Perform residence maintenance and housekeeping duties.
• Maintain reports, statistics, logbooks, case notes and incident reports.

Required profile

• Certificate in a related human or social service field.
• At least one year of recent related experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
• Valid Class 5 driver’s licence and access to a vehicle.
