Sessional Lecturer for Scholarly Writing in Indigenous Land Stewardship

About the role

The University of British Columbia seeks a part‑time Sessional Lecturer to teach NRES 150: Scholarly Writing & Argumentation in Natural Resources for the Bachelor of Indigenous Land Stewardship (BILS) program. The appointment runs from September 1 2026 to December 31 2026 (one term) and is delivered in a multi‑access format.

Key responsibilities

  • Prepare and deliver lectures for a 3‑credit course in both in‑person and online modes.
  • Facilitate active, discussion‑based, writing‑intensive learning environments, including workshops and peer‑feedback sessions.
  • Guide students through scaffolded assignments such as writing journals, positionality statements, and research‑based projects.
  • Support development of critical thinking, argumentation, and evidence‑based analysis skills.
  • Integrate Indigenous perspectives and relational approaches to knowledge throughout the course.

Required profile

  • Residency in Canada for the duration of the appointment and legal entitlement to work in Canada.
  • Demonstrated experience teaching scholarly writing, argumentation, and incorporating Indigenous viewpoints.

Required skills

  • Ability to facilitate discussion‑based, writing‑intensive learning environments.
  • Competence in designing scaffolded writing assignments and providing constructive feedback.
