Senior Tax Services Specialist

About the role

The Senior Tax Services Specialist will report to the Director of Tax Services and lead a team in delivering complex estate and trust tax solutions. This position combines technical tax expertise with client‑focused service in a modern banking environment.

Key responsibilities

• Manage and train junior staff and new hires, delivering internal training sessions.
• Prepare and review complex personal, estate, and trust income tax returns, including GREs and terminal T1 filings.
• Ensure timely and accurate completion of tax returns for estate and trust accounts.
• Gather client information, perform calculations, and complete required schedules without additional oversight.
• Liaise with internal tax teams, CIBC Trust staff, external tax professionals, and clients to meet filing deadlines and resolve tax issues.
• Identify post‑mortem and other tax planning opportunities and prepare adjustment, objection, and clearance certificate requests.
• Correspond with the CRA to provide required information and address inquiries.
• Participate in special projects and take ownership of assignments with limited supervision.

Required profile

• CPA/CA designation in good standing.
• Current accreditation with STEP, CSI, or equivalent taxation courses.
• Degree or diploma in accounting.
• Proven experience preparing T1, T1 terminal, T3 trusts, and estate returns.
• Ability to manage workloads independently and lead junior staff.
• Strong written communication skills for detailed tax documentation.
