Senior Platform Engineer

About the role

Manulife is hiring a Senior Platform Engineer in Toronto to build and operate the shared platform that application teams use to deploy and run services on Azure Kubernetes Service. The role works with infrastructure defined through Terraform and delivered using GitHub Actions and GitOps, and covers continuous delivery, multi-region resiliency, disaster recovery, policy and compliance automation, and AI-assisted platform tooling.

Key responsibilities

• Build and operate continuous and progressive delivery for Azure Kubernetes Service, including GitHub Actions pipelines, Terraform modules, GitOps reconciliation and canary/blue-green deployments via a service mesh.
• Own and improve shared CI/CD workflows and reusable Terraform module catalogues.
• Turn recurring platform requests into self-service capabilities and automated guardrails, with reference implementations, standards and documentation.
• Design and test highly available, resilient solutions across multiple Azure regions, and automate regional failover and controlled chaos experiments.
• Integrate observability, SLIs and SLOs, release gating and rollback into the delivery process.
• Establish secure, compliant delivery paths through Azure Policy, in-cluster admission controls and workload identity.
• Design and deliver AI-assisted platform tooling using agent-based solutions and the Model Context Protocol, with approval gates and auditability.

Required profile

• 8+ years in software, platform or infrastructure engineering, owning at least one end-to-end platform capability.
• 8+ years with Azure in an enterprise environment (Entra ID, workload identity, networking, governance, Azure Policy, Key Vault).
• 5+ years operating production Kubernetes across multiple clusters and regions, including a service mesh such as Istio.
• 5+ years supporting progressive delivery with canary or blue/green deployment.
• 4+ years with Terraform and CI/CD, and 4+ years developing GitHub Actions workflows with approval gating and OpenID Connect federation with Azure.
• 2+ years of production GitOps experience (Flux CD or Argo CD) and hands-on Python, Bash, YAML and containers.
• 2+ years of observability and policy as code, including APM, SLI/SLO development and admission-control policies.
• Current hands-on experience building solutions with large language models, agent frameworks, tool calling or the Model Context Protocol.
• Experience delivering solutions in a regulated enterprise with formal change management, controls and audit.

What we offer

• Expected salary range of $113,000 to $163,000 CAD, with possible incentive compensation.
