About the role
Spark Power is seeking a Senior High Voltage Electrical Technician to perform testing, maintenance, and commissioning of high‑voltage power systems across the Greater Toronto Area and beyond. You will ensure the safety and reliability of client electrical infrastructure while supporting field projects and on‑call emergency services.
Key responsibilities
- Conduct testing and commissioning on transformers, circuit breakers, protective relays, switchgear and other high‑voltage apparatus.
- Maintain and commission power distribution equipment including HV/MV/LV cables, instrument transformers and HV switches.
- Perform field testing, verification and programming of low‑voltage trip units from manufacturers such as GE, Eaton, Schneider, Siemens and ABB.
- Read and interpret AC/DC schematics, three‑line diagrams, logic diagrams and single‑line diagrams (SLDs).
- Inspect, test, operate and troubleshoot AC and DC control systems.
- Ensure compliance with OESC, IEEE and NETA codes and follow lockout/tagout safety procedures.
- Travel to out‑of‑town commissioning or maintenance projects as required.
- Document test results, generate reports and coordinate daily job activities, resources and paperwork.
- Collaborate with the Branch Manager on sales support, quotations and repeat business.
Required profile
- Post‑secondary degree or diploma in Electrical Engineering Technology.
- Minimum 3 years of experience with high‑voltage testing, troubleshooting, maintenance and commissioning.
- NETA Level 2 or Level 3 certification is an asset.
- Willingness to provide emergency and scheduled on‑call services.
- Ability to work in industrial and outdoor substation environments.
Required skills
- High‑voltage testing and commissioning.
- Maintenance of power transformers, circuit breakers, HV switches, HV/MV/LV cables and instrument transformers.
- Low‑voltage trip unit programming (GE, Eaton, Schneider, Siemens, ABB).
- Lockout/Tagout procedures and electrical safety awareness.
- Interpretation of AC/DC schematics, three‑line diagrams, logic diagrams and SLDs.
- Knowledge of OESC, IEEE and NETA standards.
