Secondary English Teacher (Grades 7-12)

About the role

Banbury Crossroads School is seeking a passionate Secondary English Teacher for grades 7‑12. You will design and deliver an engaging English curriculum within a self‑directed learning environment, inspiring students to develop a lifelong love of reading and writing.

Key responsibilities

• Plan, develop, and execute lessons aligned with the Alberta Programs of Study, using diverse instructional strategies.
• Foster a literature‑rich classroom that promotes critical thinking and effective communication.
• Guide literary analysis and creative writing projects across various genres and authors.
• Collaborate with colleagues to create interdisciplinary learning opportunities.
• Assess student progress through formative and summative assessments and provide constructive feedback.
• Communicate regularly with parents and guardians.
• Leverage small class sizes (approximately 10:1) for personalized instruction.
• Adapt teaching methods to support special‑needs students and ensure an inclusive environment.

Required profile

• Valid Alberta teaching certification.
• Bachelor of Education (Master of Education preferred) with additional qualifications in English or a related field.
• Proven experience teaching secondary English and strong literary analysis skills.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
• Legal eligibility to work in Canada and a commitment to continuous professional growth.
