Safety Officer – Manufacturing Plant

About the role

We are seeking a Safety Officer to lead health and safety initiatives at our manufacturing plant in Edmonton. The role involves overseeing daily safety operations, ensuring compliance with regulations, and fostering a safe work environment for all staff.

Key responsibilities

• Administer staff consultation and grievance procedures and motivate personnel.
• Plan, control, and monitor the safety budget and related expenditures.
• Develop, implement, and review health‑and‑safety policies, procedures and training programs.
• Inspect workplaces, hazardous chemical storage, and spill sites for compliance.
• Investigate accidents or illnesses, initiate enforcement actions, and prepare related reports.
• Collect material samples for analysis and oversee classification of occupations.
• Manage training and development strategies for safety staff.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field.
• Experience supervising 11‑15 employees and managing a $100k‑$500k safety budget.
• Certificates: ISO 9000/9001, First Aid, Occupational Health & Safety, WHMIS.
• Ability to work independently in a fast‑paced, pressure‑filled environment.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, Windows, Excel, PowerPoint and Word.
• Strong knowledge of WHMIS, pollution monitoring, chemical containment and hazardous product handling.
