Research Engineer – Process Development at Advanced Therapeutics Manufacturing Facility

About the role

The Advanced Therapeutics Manufacturing Facility (ATMF) at UBC is seeking a Research Engineer to drive process development for cutting‑edge therapeutic products. This role supports a national CFI‑funded initiative aimed at building a GMP‑compliant biomanufacturing core for early‑phase clinical trials.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct research and lead technical workstreams to advance biomanufacturing technologies for plasmids, mRNA/LNP formulations, and cell therapy products.
• Design, optimize, and scale upstream and downstream processes.
• Perform data analysis and develop robust manufacturing protocols.
• Maintain laboratory equipment and ensure compliance with GMP standards.
• Support technology transfer to GMP production environments.
• Collaborate with cross‑functional teams, including the Process Development Manager and Project Lead.
• Supervise junior staff conducting research activities.
• Prepare reports, peer‑reviewed publications, and present research findings.

Required profile

• Experience in biomanufacturing process development for advanced therapeutics.
• Familiarity with plasmid DNA, mRNA/LNP, and cell therapy workflows.
• Ability to work independently and within multidisciplinary teams.
• Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills.
