Research Coordinator – Emergency Medicine Surveillance

About the role

The Research Coordinator will support a national evaluation program within UBC’s Department of Emergency Medicine, focusing on influenza surveillance, vaccine effectiveness, infectious disease epidemiology and pandemic preparedness. Working with the Canadian Emergency Department Research Network (CEDRN) and the Canadian Sentinel Practitioner Surveillance Network (SPSN), the role coordinates multi‑site activities, conducts analyses and contributes to knowledge translation.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and implement standard operating procedures for CEDRN sites to capture ED‑specific data for influenza surveillance and vaccine effectiveness monitoring.
• Design analytical techniques, conduct quantitative and qualitative analyses, and present findings to network planning meetings and stakeholders.
• Draft and refine ethics board applications, data‑sharing agreements and protocol documents, ensuring compliance with privacy and data‑governance standards.
• Coordinate pilot site activities, including participant eligibility, consent, specimen handling and data collection across multiple provinces.
• Prepare progress reports, scholarly outputs, conference materials and knowledge‑translation tools for diverse audiences.

Required profile

• Demonstrated professionalism, independence and strong interpersonal skills to navigate national, multi‑site, multi‑disciplinary networks.
• Experience with epidemiological methods, health‑services evaluation and handling of personal health data within a Canadian regulatory context.
• Ability to develop protocols, manage ethics submissions and oversee data‑governance compliance.
