Research Associate – Neuroscience & Ecology

About the role

The Department of Biology at McGill University seeks a motivated Research Associate to lead and coordinate cutting‑edge projects at the intersection of neuroscience and ecology. This part‑time, fixed‑term position supports high‑impact publications and hands‑on field and laboratory work with live birds.

Key responsibilities

• Lead data analysis, manuscript preparation, and publication of two major studies: unbiased stereology of starlings exposed to imidacloprid and eggshell microbiome genomics of prairie‑nesting songbirds.
• Design, execute, and complete a third independent project such as cytochrome oxidase analysis on gull brains linked to GPS tracking data.
• Order laboratory supplies, maintain inventory spreadsheets, and organize packing slips.
• Monitor and care for live birds in the N7 facility and Phytotron Greenhouses.

Required profile

• Minimum three years post‑PhD experience working with live birds in laboratory or field settings.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to work weekends when required.
• Demonstrated leadership and interest in mentoring graduate and undergraduate students.

Required skills

• Immunocytochemistry
• Microscopy, including unbiased stereology
• Genomic analysis of microbiomes

What we offer

• Hourly wage of $35.37 CAD
• Part‑time schedule (14 hours per week) on a fixed‑term contract from August 2026 to April 2027
