Lab Helper B – Part‑time Research Assistant

About the role

The Department of Biology at McGill University seeks a Lab Helper B to support ongoing research projects. This part‑time position involves hands‑on work in behavioral and immunocytochemical studies, as well as routine animal husbandry.

Key responsibilities

• Execute laboratory experiments, including behavioral assays and immunocytochemistry.
• Handle and care for small animals and breeding colonies, monitoring health and welfare.
• Record experimental results, perform calculations, and compile data sets.
• Maintain laboratory records, files, and inventory of supplies and equipment.
• Perform minor equipment repairs, coordinate servicing, and ensure a clean, safe work environment.
• Follow safety regulations for hazardous material storage, handling, and disposal.

Required profile

• High school diploma with at least one year of related experience.
• Experience working with live animals and training in wet‑lab techniques such as histology and tissue sectioning.
• Background in biology, psychology, neuroscience, or related fields.
• Ability to work weekends as needed and approval by the McGill Work‑Study Program.
