Research Associate – Electrochemistry

About the role

The University of British Columbia’s Department of Chemistry is seeking a Research Associate to lead and execute projects in electrochemical decarbonization, thin‑film materials, and self‑driving laboratory automation. This non‑tenure‑track position will support cutting‑edge research and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams on the Point Grey Campus.

Key responsibilities

• Develop project proposals and tracking documents for thin‑film materials, electrochemical reactors, and self‑driving lab initiatives.
• Plan, coordinate, and execute experiments related to carbon utilization and storage technologies.
• Manage a multidisciplinary research team, ensuring compliance with policies and procedures.
• Mentor graduate students and junior researchers.
• Maintain relationships with external collaborators and oversee procurement of equipment and supplies.

Required profile

• PhD in Chemistry.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science.
• Minimum 6 years of experience with self‑driving labs, electrochemical reactors, and thin‑film materials.
• Strong publication record in relevant fields.
• Effective verbal, visual, and written scientific communication skills.

Required skills

• Python programming.
• C/C++ development.
• UI/UX design and implementation.
