Registered Practical Nurse – Pre‑Admit Clinic (Temp Part‑Time)

About the role

The Waterloo Regional Health Network is seeking a Registered Practical Nurse (RPN) to join its Pre‑Admit Clinic on a temporary part‑time basis until February 2028. The RPN will support patients preparing for general and cardiac surgery by providing assessment, education, and coordinated care.

Key responsibilities

• Apply WRHN and College of Nurses of Ontario standards to plan, implement, and evaluate patient care.
• Assess pre‑operative patients, identify risk factors, and communicate findings to the interdisciplinary team.
• Provide patient education and conduct phone interviews to ensure readiness for surgery.
• Demonstrate strong time‑management, critical‑thinking, and leadership skills in a fast‑paced clinical environment.
• Collaborate effectively with nurses, physicians, allied health professionals, and support staff.

Required profile

• Registered Practical Nurse in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario.
• Three to five years of surgical nursing experience.
• Excellent venipuncture and patient‑assessment abilities.
• Commitment to self‑directed learning and strong communication skills.
• Positive attendance record and recent experience in pediatrics, gynecology, orthopaedics, or general surgery.
• Knowledge of external pacemakers and chest‑tube management; Cerner experience is an asset.
