Registered Nurse, Family Birthing Centre

About the role

The Family Birthing Centre at St. Michael's Hospital is seeking a cross‑trained Registered Nurse to deliver safe, ethical, and patient‑centred care in a dynamic, interprofessional environment. The RN will support families through pregnancy, labour, and postpartum periods while continuously advancing nursing practice.

Key responsibilities

• Provide holistic, evidence‑based, culturally appropriate nursing care in line with College of Nurses of Ontario standards.
• Establish therapeutic relationships with patients and families, delivering health education using effective teaching strategies.
• Collaborate and coordinate with the multidisciplinary care team to ensure seamless patient transitions and safe handovers.
• Assess patient needs, develop and adjust individualized care plans, and evaluate outcomes.
• Document assessments, interventions, and patient progress accurately in the medical record.
• Participate in discharge planning, referrals, and community resource linkage as needed.

Required profile

• Current registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario.
• Ability to work autonomously and be accountable for professional decisions.
• Strong reflective practice and commitment to ongoing learning.
• Excellent communication and collaborative skills within interprofessional teams.
• Willingness to mentor students, co‑workers, and other health professionals.
