Registered Dietitian – Diabetes Education Program

About the role

The Registered Dietitian – Diabetes Education Program (DEP) provides community‑based nutritional assessments, diabetes self‑management education, insulin management and behaviour‑change support for people living with type 2 diabetes in the Kitchener‑Waterloo region. The role works within a client‑centred health team, collaborating with primary‑care practitioners, endocrinologists and community partners.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver individual and group nutrition education, develop client‑focused nutritional plans and provide behaviour‑change support.
• Conduct diabetes foot checks, hyperlipotrophy screening and support insulin initiation as authorized.
• Participate in program development, implementation, monitoring and evaluation for the regional diabetes program.
• Perform community nutrition needs assessments and support food‑security initiatives.
• Maintain accurate clinical notes, supervise students and volunteers, and manage program budgets.

Required profile

• Undergraduate degree in foods and nutrition (or equivalent).
• Dietetic Internship accredited by Dietitians of Canada or equivalent experience.
• Registered member in good standing with the College of Dietitians of Ontario.
• Certified Diabetes Educator (or experience with goal to obtain CDE certification).
• Minimum three years of nutrition counselling experience, preferably in a community setting.

Required skills

• Proficiency with EMR systems and other relevant technology.
• Strong command of Microsoft Office applications.
• Current CPR certification.

• Hourly wage $36.33 – $43.77 (CAD) with full‑time and part‑time options.
