Protection & Control Specialist

About the role

We are seeking an experienced Protection & Control Specialist to join our Hamilton team. You will play a key role in ensuring the reliability and efficiency of our clients' electrical power systems through field testing, programming, and integration of protection devices.

Key responsibilities

• Program, test, and verify Intelligent Electronic Devices (SEL, Siemens, ABB, GE) in the field.
• Integrate protection devices with SCADA and RTU systems.
• Conduct relay and protection scheme testing using Omicron secondary‑injection equipment.
• Create and modify single‑line and three‑line diagrams with AutoCAD.
• Troubleshoot protection and control circuits and provide technical advice to clients.
• Assist with power system studies such as load flow, short‑circuit, device coordination, and arc‑flash analyses.
• Collaborate with project teams to meet specifications, safety standards, and delivery timelines.
• Prepare, review, and submit detailed test reports and maintain accurate documentation.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a 3‑year Electrical Engineering Technology diploma focused on power systems.
• Eligibility to register with OACETT or PE.
• Minimum 5 + years of experience in protection and control.
• Strong knowledge of OESC, IEEE, and NETA standards.
• Proficiency with Omicron testing equipment.
• Excellent organizational, analytical, and problem‑solving abilities.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
• Valid Class G driver’s licence.

Required skills

• SEL, Siemens, ABB, and GE IED programming and testing.
• SCADA and RTU system integration.

• AutoCAD for single‑line and three‑line diagram creation.
