Property Tax Specialist

About the role

Home Trust is seeking a Property Tax Specialist to manage property tax matters for mortgage customers across Canada. The role involves handling inquiries, processing payments, and ensuring tax accounts remain in good standing while providing clear communication to clients.

Key responsibilities

• Respond to property tax inquiries from the Contact Centre, Residential Underwriting, and Mortgage Renewals teams.
• Maintain mortgage customer tax accounts and ensure timely payment of property taxes.
• Perform monthly reviews of accounts with tax deficits or surpluses and take corrective action.
• Conduct yearly portfolio reviews of tax components and adjust amounts to avoid deficits or surpluses after remittance.
• Handle arrears inquiries from municipalities or clients and process supplementary tax bills after property reassessments.
• Set up tax roll numbers and municipality billing information for newly funded loans.
• Monitor tax sale notices and act within required timeframes to prevent tax sales.
• Process client requests for tax refunds or approvals to pay taxes directly.
• Order tax certificates from municipalities as needed and archive all related documents for audit compliance.

Required profile

• Experience in property tax administration or related mortgage servicing functions.
• Strong knowledge of municipal tax processes and payment procedures.
• Ability to review and reconcile tax accounts accurately on a monthly and yearly basis.
• Excellent communication skills to convey payment details and respond to client inquiries.
• Attention to detail for record‑keeping and audit requirements.
