Project Manager – Energy & Special Projects

About the role

The City of Hamilton is seeking a Project Manager to lead its Energy and Special Projects portfolio within the Corporate Facilities and Energy Management Division. The role oversees energy management programs, renewable energy assets, and capital renewal projects across municipal facilities.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and implement the corporate energy strategy, including energy audits, retrofits, demand‑response measures and budgeting.
• Manage the City’s interests in Hamilton Renewable Power (HRP Inc.), overseeing renewable natural gas, biogas and co‑generation systems.
• Lead RFP processes, evaluate proposals, negotiate contracts and administer consultant and contractor agreements.
• Design engineering specifications and supervise the delivery of energy retrofit and lifecycle renewal projects.
• Monitor project budgets, capital programs and performance reporting to ensure cost‑effective outcomes.
• Coordinate with internal departments, external partners and suppliers to secure funding and incentives for energy initiatives.

Required profile

• Diploma in Engineering (mechanical or related field) with proven knowledge of energy and utility management.
• Experience managing large‑scale energy projects, renewable energy assets and capital renewal programs.
• Demonstrated ability to develop and administer contracts, RFPs and procurement processes.
