Principal Software Engineer – Big Data & Java

About the role

PointClickCare, a leading health‑tech company, is looking for a Principal Software Engineer to design, develop, and maintain large‑scale data platforms and pipelines. The role combines hands‑on development with technical leadership, driving both batch and real‑time data solutions across the organization.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the design and implementation of scalable distributed systems based on Java microservices.
• Engineer and optimise data pipelines using Apache Hudi, Apache Trino, Azure ADLS and related big‑data technologies.
• Collaborate with product, analytics and AI teams to make data a strategic asset.
• Advance modernisation efforts, promoting event‑driven architectures and cloud‑native solutions.
• Drive best practices in data governance, observability and performance tuning for both batch and streaming workloads.

Required profile

• 10+ years of software or data engineering experience, with at least 4 years focused on data pipelines (batch and streaming).
• Proven track record of technical direction and mentoring while delivering high‑scale solutions.
• Strong understanding of event‑driven architectures and distributed systems.
• Hands‑on experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure or GCP) and containerised deployments.
• Fluency in data‑quality practices, CI/CD, schema management and automated testing frameworks.
