Physician – Central North Correctional Centre

About the role

Calian Health is seeking a qualified physician to join the interdisciplinary team at the Central North Correctional Centre in Penetanguishene, Ontario. The role focuses on delivering primary care to a diverse inmate population with complex health needs.

Key responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive primary healthcare, including physical and mental health assessments, diagnosis, treatment, and management of acute and chronic conditions.
• Collaborate with nurses, mental health professionals, and other specialists to develop individualized care plans.
• Prescribe medications and implement harm‑reduction strategies, including Opioid Agonist Treatment.
• Promote preventative health measures and health education within the correctional setting.

Required profile

• Registered for independent practice in Family Medicine with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario, in good standing.
• Valid malpractice insurance (CMPA) and OHIP billing number.
• Ability to provide Opioid Agonist Treatment (OAT) according to CPSO guidelines.
• Experience treating addiction, withdrawal, mental health, infectious disease, and chronic/complex conditions in marginalized populations.
• Willingness to obtain a Vulnerable Sector Check and Ontario security clearance.
