Peer Support Worker – Assertive Community Treatment Team

About the role

This full‑time, permanent position provides non‑clinical peer support to individuals with serious and persistent mental illness. The role draws on lived experience to offer emotional support, information, referral, goal‑setting and advocacy, empowering clients to make self‑determined choices.

Key responsibilities

• Provide non‑clinical services such as information, referral, emotional support and goal‑setting.
• Advise and educate team members on the client’s perspective to promote a client‑ and family‑centered approach.
• Assist clients in navigating health and social service systems and connect them with community resources.
• Advocate for client initiatives, reduce isolation and support community integration.
• Maintain confidentiality, record client contacts and participate in reflective supervision.

Required profile

• Ability to articulate lived‑experience perspective and client rights.
• Knowledge of the Recovery Model and mental‑health recovery philosophy.
• Training in peer‑support work (e.g., Core Skills SHH/TEACH, Core Essentials OPDI).
• Minimum one year of volunteer experience in an official peer‑support role.
• Capacity to work independently, across cultural barriers and to self‑advocate for clients.

Required skills

• Computer literacy and recording skills.
• Valid driver’s licence and ability to access public transportation.
• CPR and First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain).
