Music Teacher (Grades FDK-8)

About the role

The York Catholic District School Board is inviting applications for a Music Teacher position covering grades FDK-8. The successful candidate plans, teaches, assesses and evaluates the music program, delivers the Board-approved curriculum and travels to various schools across the Board. The posting is for an applicant pool; only shortlisted candidates will be contacted.

Key responsibilities

• Plan, teach, assess and evaluate the music program for grades FDK-8
• Deliver the music curriculum as approved by the Board
• Travel to various schools throughout the Board

Required profile

• Primary and/or Junior and/or Intermediate division qualifications, or basic or additional qualifications in music (music qualifications preferred)
• Desired: degree in Music Education or other music accreditation, and Junior and/or Intermediate qualifications to teach instrumental music
• Desired: background in music and accreditation in Orff (minimum Level 1) or Kodaly
• Desired: ability to teach vocal music, recorders and percussion, and to read music
• Desired: knowledge of Ministry expectations for music grades FDK-8

Required skills

• Desired: demonstrated knowledge of music theory and vocal ability
• Desired: ability to connect the music program with literacy and numeracy skill development
• Desired: experience teaching music to junior and/or intermediate students
• Desired: strong interpersonal, collaborative and communication skills, and ability to support teachers directly

Daily rate for unqualified applicants is $280.41; qualified teachers earn $289.19-$619.73 per full day depending on placement on the salary grid. A Vulnerable Sector Check or Criminal Record and Judicial Matters Check is required within six months of the posting closing.
