Municipal Law Enforcement Officer I

About the role

The Town of Caledon is seeking a dedicated Municipal Law Enforcement Officer I to enforce by‑laws and ensure community safety. Reporting to the Supervisor, Municipal Law Enforcement, this unionized position involves both proactive and reactive enforcement across traffic, parking, noise, nuisance, fireworks, and dumping regulations.

Key responsibilities

• Work independently and collaboratively with other by‑law officers and internal departments.
• Partner with external agencies such as MTO, OPP, Animal Control, and other municipal by‑law enforcement bodies.
• Issue Notices of Violation, Orders, and process Part I‑III offences under the Provincial Offences Act.
• Respond to complaints, conduct investigations, and enforce parking provisions of municipal and regional traffic by‑laws.
• Communicate with vehicle owners regarding parking violations and enter data into the parking infraction database.
• Prepare investigation reports, gather evidence, and testify in court.
• Supervise towing contractors for removal of illegally parked vehicles.
• Participate in policy and procedure improvement initiatives.
• Serve summons, provide backup animal‑control duties, and undertake special projects as assigned.

Required profile

• Post‑secondary diploma in Law Enforcement or a closely related field.
• Strong commitment to public safety and community education.
• Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
• Excellent communication and report‑writing skills.
