Medical Director – Medical Assistance in Dying (MAID)

About the role

Shared Health is seeking an experienced and compassionate physician to lead its Medical Assistance in Dying (MAID) program across Manitoba. As Medical Director, you will provide clinical, administrative, and educational oversight to ensure high‑quality, patient‑centered MAID services.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee clinical delivery of MAID services, ensuring safety and patient‑centered care.
• Provide administrative leadership, including policy development, compliance monitoring, and risk management.
• Design and deliver educational programs for staff and external partners.
• Collaborate with the Health Authority to align services with provincial regulations and ethical standards.
• Maintain documentation and reporting in accordance with regulatory requirements.

Required profile

• Full licensure (or eligibility) with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Manitoba.
• Medical staff appointment at Shared Health.
• Active or prior experience as a MAID assessor and provider.
• Medical liability coverage through CMPA or equivalent.
• Completion of a medical residency; palliative care fellowship or health‑care administration training is an asset.
• Strong communication, leadership, and inter‑professional collaboration skills.
• Willingness to engage in ongoing leadership and management training.
