Mechanical Engineer - Bulk Material Handling

About the role

EMS-Tech Inc. is a growing engineering firm specializing in the design and supply of bulk material handling equipment and systems, headquartered in Belleville, Ontario. It is looking for an experienced Mechanical Engineer to join its engineering team, working on conveyor systems, self-loading/unloading ships, stackers, stacker-reclaimers and shiploaders.

Key responsibilities

• Work with customers, suppliers and contractors on technical matters, including travel to customer and supplier sites internationally
• Develop expertise in EMS-Tech equipment, systems and design analysis methods
• Lead technical teams and establish task scope, design concepts, specifications, schedules and budgeted hours
• Establish conceptual designs and complete analysis and calculation details to meet project needs
• Write technical reports and protect company confidentiality and intellectual property
• Use mechanical modelling software and analysis techniques, and coach less experienced engineers in manual verification methods

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Applied Science
• Licensed P.Eng. in Ontario, or other equivalent
• 8-20 years of experience sizing and selecting mechanical components
• Proven track record in bulk material handling conveyor, mobile equipment design or a transferable field
• Experience leading technical teams and strong organizational skills

Required skills

• Technical report writing and interaction with suppliers, customers and design teams
• AutoCAD, SolidWorks, FEA and DEM analysis tools
• Knowledge of conveyor design standards (FEM Section II, AS4324, CEMA or DIN 22101), hydraulic design, bearing selection and motor power calculations is an asset
