MDRD Reprocessing Technician – Casual

About the role

The MDRD Reprocessing Technician provides essential sterile processing services across two hospital sites, ensuring medical devices are safely decontaminated, sterilized, and ready for patient use. This casual, union‑represented position is based at Louise Marshall Hospital and supports both Palmerston & District Hospital and Louise Marshall Hospital.

Key responsibilities

• Perform decontamination, cleaning, and sterilization of medical devices in the MDRD area.
• Manage sterile storage, packaging, and distribution to clinical areas.
• Handle portering, dispatch, and accurate record‑keeping for all reprocessed items.
• Follow strict infection‑control protocols and maintain compliance with hospital standards.
• Assist with inventory control and equipment maintenance as needed.

Required profile

• Knowledge of sterile department operations, cross‑infection control, and decontamination processes.
• Successful completion of the Central Service Techniques Course.
• CSA certification or willingness to obtain it.
• Experience in all MDRD areas, including decontamination, sterile processing, portering, and record maintenance.
• Detail‑oriented with a proven ability to follow precise procedures.
• Ability to work effectively in a fast‑paced, time‑pressured environment.
• Clean performance and attendance record, satisfactory reference checks, Police Vulnerable Sector Check, and pre‑employment health assessment.
