Maintenance Engineer – Facilities Management

About the role

The Maintenance Engineer is responsible for operating and maintaining building equipment and infrastructure such as boilers, cooling towers, pumps, air compressors, geo‑exchange and district‑energy HVAC systems. The role ensures the UBC Okanagan campus remains operational 24/7.

Key responsibilities

• Perform daily safety checks, review log books, inspect boiler systems and conduct rounds of mechanical rooms, reporting any abnormalities.
• Monitor water quality in open‑aquifer loops and district‑energy systems, and adjust building automation controls as needed.
• Conduct preventative maintenance on HVAC, boiler, chiller, compressor and backflow systems, and respond to emergencies such as fire alarms, floods or power disruptions.
• Maintain records, enter work‑order status, manage inventory, and handle purchasing of supplies.

Required profile

• Completion of Grade 12 plus trades training in Power Engineering to journeyman (4th class) status.
• At least 6 years of progressive related experience in building systems or industrial maintenance.
• Valid Class 5 driver’s licence and ability to lift up to 50 lb regularly.
• Willingness to work flexible hours, on‑call rotations and occasional weekend shifts.
