Mainline Operator – Civil Construction

About the role

Canoco is looking for an experienced Mainline Operator to join its Civil Division. The role focuses on operating heavy equipment for underground utility projects, ensuring safe and accurate execution of excavation, trenching, and backfilling tasks.

Key responsibilities

• Operate excavators and other heavy equipment for mainline underground construction, including excavation, trenching, grading, sloping, and material handling.
• Perform mainline excavation for water, sewer, and other underground utilities while protecting existing infrastructure.
• Maintain trench depth, grade, and alignment according to project specifications and blueprints.
• Read and interpret grade stakes, site plans, and project specifications to guide work.
• Collaborate closely with pipe crews, supervisors, and other operators to sustain production and safety.
• Conduct daily equipment inspections and routine maintenance to ensure safe operation.
• Keep the work area clean and adhere to all company safety policies.
• Report equipment issues, hazards, or safety concerns promptly.

Required profile

• Previous experience as a Mainline Operator in civil and underground construction.
• Strong background operating excavators and heavy equipment on underground projects.
• Familiarity with water, sewer, and underground utility installations is preferred.
• Valid driver’s licence and ability to work safely around existing utilities.
• Understanding of trenching techniques, soil conditions, grades, and safe digging practices.
• Effective communication skills and ability to work as part of a crew, including overtime or shift work as needed.

Required skills

• Excavator and heavy equipment operation.
• Use of GPS machine‑control systems such as Topcon or Trimble.
• Reading and interpreting grade stakes, blueprints, and project specifications.
