Machine Learning Intern/Co‑op – Winter 2027

About the role

Cohere is seeking a Machine Learning Intern/Co‑op for the Winter 2027 term to help ship state‑of‑the‑art models to production. You will design, train and improve cutting‑edge AI models while working closely with senior engineers and product teams.

Key responsibilities

• Design, train and improve cutting‑edge models for enterprise applications.
• Develop new techniques to train and serve models faster, safer and more efficiently.
• Train extremely large‑scale models on massive datasets using distributed systems.
• Explore continual and active learning strategies for streaming data.
• Learn from experienced senior machine‑learning staff.
• Collaborate with product teams to develop AI‑driven solutions.

Required profile

• Proficiency in Python and ML frameworks such as TensorFlow, TF‑Serving, JAX and XLA/MLIR.
• Experience with large‑scale distributed training strategies.
• Familiarity with autoregressive sequence models, e.g., Transformers.
• Strong communication and problem‑solving abilities.
• Demonstrated passion for applied NLP models and products.
• Bonus: experience writing GPU kernels with CUDA.
• Bonus: experience training on TPUs.
• Bonus: publications at top‑tier conferences (NeurIPS, ICML, ICLR, etc.).
