Legislative Security Officer

About the role

The Legislative Security Officer supports the safety, wellbeing, and smooth operation of the Manitoba Legislative Precinct. Reporting to the Legislative Security Unit leadership, the officer provides timely briefings, risk assessments, and recommendations to ensure a secure environment for staff, visitors, and elected officials.

Key responsibilities

• Uphold the Legislative Security Act and enforce security protocols within the Legislative Building and surrounding precinct.
• Conduct operational planning, threat assessments, and incident response for both planned events and unexpected situations.
• Prepare comprehensive written reports and verbal briefings for senior leadership and external partners.
• Collaborate with Indigenous communities, fostering respectful engagement and applying reconciliation principles.
• Support the Protective Services Team with VIP assignments, court testimony, and specialized security tasks.

Required profile

• Experience in Canadian law enforcement, including regular firearm carriage.
• Strong political acumen and ability to build relationships in a high‑pressure environment.
• Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
• Knowledge of the Charter of Rights, Powers of Arrest, and related police legislation.
• Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
