Junior Design Engineer (Design & Code)

About the role

We are looking for a Junior Design Engineer who can both design intuitive user experiences and implement them in code. Reporting to the VP of Engineering, you will work closely with product and engineering teams to shape the UI and UX of Ashby’s recruiting platform.

Key responsibilities

• Design and prototype new flows for our web and mobile applications based on user research.
• Build and maintain components in our in‑house design system, ensuring consistency across the product.
• Collaborate with product engineers to translate designs into production‑ready code.
• Improve information hierarchy and visual scannability of complex data views.
• Participate in customer interviews to validate design decisions.

Required profile

• Passion for both visual design and front‑end development.
• Ability to work independently and communicate ideas clearly.
• Interest in solving complex design problems at scale.

Required skills

• Experience with UI/UX design tools (e.g., Figma, Sketch) and wireframing.
• Proficiency in front‑end technologies (HTML, CSS, JavaScript) to build functional prototypes.
• Familiarity with component‑based design systems.
