Junior Academic Writer – Research Projects

About the role

The University of British Columbia is seeking a Junior Academic Writer to support research projects within the Bingham Research Division of Social Medicine. This part‑time, 0.5 FTE position (approximately 18.75 hours per week) runs for one year with possible renewal.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare, edit, and format academic manuscripts, abstracts, conference submissions, and research reports.
• Conduct literature reviews and summarize evidence using academic databases.
• Synthesize qualitative and quantitative findings into clear written summaries.
• Assist with drafting manuscript sections (introduction, methods, results, discussion) under senior guidance.
• Review documents for clarity, accuracy, and compliance with journal or funding requirements.
• Manage references, citation formatting, and maintain organized literature databases.
• Develop knowledge‑translation materials such as research summaries and briefing documents.

Required profile

• Strong written communication skills with meticulous attention to detail.
• Ability to synthesize complex research findings into concise narratives.
• Interest in academic and community‑engaged research within health and social medicine.
• Capacity to work collaboratively with investigators, research staff, trainees, and community partners.

Required skills
