Journeyman/Woman Glazier

About the role

Alberta Glass Company Inc. is looking for a qualified journeyman or journeyman‑woman glazier to work on a variety of commercial, industrial and institutional projects in Calgary. The successful candidate will install, repair and maintain glass systems while ensuring safety and quality standards are met.

Key responsibilities

• Determine the type of glass, frames and materials required for each project.
• Position, secure and install prefabricated glass, mirrors and glass products.
• Install doors, windows, hardware and related components.
• Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, specifications and maps.
• Work at heights using scaffolding, swing stages, man‑lifts, cranes and other lifting equipment.
• Cut glass plates manually (straight cuts) and free‑hand (curved cuts), laminate glass and fabricate frames for curtain walls, storefronts and other systems.
• Instruct apprentices and ensure compliance with safety protocols.
• Repair glass doors and other glass structures as needed.

Required profile

• Trade certificate or diploma in a related field, or equivalent experience.
• 3 to less than 5 years of glazier experience.
• Red Seal Glazier certification and Glazier Trade Certification.
• Working‑at‑heights training, First Aid and WHMIS certificates.
• Valid driver’s licence, own transportation and ability to pass background checks.
• Physically demanding work: heavy loads, standing for long periods, bending, crouching and kneeling.

Required skills

• Glass installation and repair.
• Blueprint and technical drawing interpretation.
• Manual and free‑hand glass cutting techniques.
• Use of carbide, diamond and brass‑tube bits.
• Operation of man‑lifts, cranes and other lifting equipment.
• Working safely at heights on scaffolding or swing stages.
