Instructor – Cybersecurity and the Law (Fall 2026)

About the role

The Faculty of Law at McGill University seeks an experienced legal professional to teach a specialized undergraduate course on Cybersecurity and the Law during the Fall 2026 term. The instructor will lead weekly sessions, guide case‑based discussions, and assess student performance.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver lectures and facilitate discussions for the course scheduled on Tuesdays, 17:35‑20:25.
• Develop and update course materials covering cybersecurity threats, legal frameworks, and ethical considerations.
• Evaluate student assignments, exams, and participation.
• Collaborate with Student Affairs and the Faculty to ensure smooth course administration.

Required profile

• At minimum, a first degree in law.
• Several years of significant practice or professional experience in cybersecurity‑related legal matters.
• Experience teaching undergraduate law students in a bilingual (English/French) environment.

Required skills

• In‑depth knowledge of national and international cybersecurity laws, data privacy regulations, and breach reporting obligations.
• Ability to analyze and discuss real‑world case studies involving ransomware, hacking, and cyber‑warfare.
• Understanding of ethical hacking, government surveillance, and law‑enforcement roles in cyber incidents.
