Infection Prevention & Control Nurse – CFB Esquimalt

About the role

Calian is seeking an Infection Prevention and Control (IPAC) Nurse to join its clinical team at Canadian Forces Base Esquimalt in Victoria, BC. The role supports the health and wellbeing of Canadian Armed Forces members by ensuring safe, high‑quality care through infection prevention, surveillance, and training.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver CFHS IPAC programs tailored to local needs and act as a backup immunizer after certification.
• Identify infectious disease processes and support clinical teams in distinguishing colonisation, infection, contamination, and antimicrobial use.
• Lead local surveillance activities, conduct risk assessments, epidemiologic investigations, and develop systems to flag communicable diseases.
• Collect, track, and analyse infection data, including incidence, prevalence, and infection rates.
• Participate in outbreak investigations and implement effective control measures.
• Provide annual IPAC training on routine practices, PPE use, hand hygiene, and biomedical waste management.

Required profile

• Registered nurse with experience in infection prevention and control within healthcare settings.
• Ability to conduct surveillance, risk assessments, and outbreak investigations.
• Strong analytical skills for data collection and interpretation.
• Effective communication and training abilities for staff education.

Required skills

• Infection surveillance and epidemiologic investigation.
• Data analysis and reporting of infection metrics.
• Implementation of IPAC policies and procedures.
• Immunisation certification (as backup immuniser).
