Icehouse Manager

About the role

Black & McDonald’s Facility Management & Operations team is expanding and is looking for an Icehouse Manager to oversee ice plant operations and ice surface maintenance in Ottawa, Ontario.

Key responsibilities

• Operate the registered ice plant: conduct rounds, take readings, report findings, schedule maintenance, and adjust set points to maintain ice quality.
• Monitor and maintain two ice surfaces, directing staff and planning maintenance around rental schedules.
• Train icehouse personnel and create/maintain staffing schedules for an 18‑hour‑per‑day operation.
• Liaise with clients and the welcome desk, assist with facility projects, and coordinate annual ice removal and reinstatement.
• Coordinate maintenance of three ice‑resurfacing machines (Olympia and Zamboni) and answer after‑hours calls.
• Support mechanical and electrical system upkeep within the facility.

Required profile

• 5–10 years of experience in ice surface maintenance and care.
• Refrigeration B License – TSSA.
• ORFA Certified Ice Technician (or ORFA Aqua Operator, optional).
• Ice Resurface Machine Driver certification.

Required skills

• Operation of a registered ice plant.
• Maintenance of Olympia and Zamboni ice‑resurfacing machines.
• Ability to adjust set points and schedule maintenance for ice quality.
• Staff scheduling and training for icehouse operations.
• Technical troubleshooting of mechanical and electrical systems.
