High Voltage Electrical Technician

About the role

Spark Power is seeking a High Voltage Electrical Technician to install, test, commission, maintain, and repair high‑voltage electrical systems across substations, transmission, and distribution networks.

Key responsibilities

• Install, maintain, and repair high‑voltage equipment such as transformers, breakers, switchgear, bus systems, and disconnects.
• Perform acceptance testing, commissioning, and diagnostics (Megger, TTR, power factor, relay protection).
• Execute planned emergency maintenance on distribution and transmission systems.
• Interpret single‑line diagrams, protection/control schematics, and relay coordination studies.
• Apply lockout/tag‑out (LOTO) procedures, switching, isolation, grounding, and energization/de‑energization in HV environments.
• Travel frequently to remote substations and project sites; work extended hours during outages.
• Lead or support outage planning and mentor apprentices and junior technicians.

Required profile

• Specialized expertise in energized and de‑energized high‑voltage environments (5 kV‑44 kV+).
• Strict adherence to utility and safety standards, including electrical LOTO awareness.
• Ability to read and work from technical diagrams and protection studies.
• Willingness to travel, work nights/weekends, and handle emergency situations.
• Business acumen and strong planning/organization skills.

Required skills

• High‑voltage equipment installation, maintenance, and repair.
• Testing tools: Megger, TTR, power‑factor meters, relay protection testers.
• Interpretation of single‑line diagrams, protection & control schematics, relay coordination.
• Electrical lockout/tag‑out (LOTO) procedures.
• Switching, isolation, grounding, and energization/de‑energization practices.
• Knowledge of HV/MV circuit breakers, bus systems, and disconnects.
