Heavy Equipment Mechanic

About the role

This position is responsible for maintaining and repairing heavy‑equipment and trucks in an outdoor, often noisy and dusty environment. The successful candidate will also mentor apprentices and ensure all work complies with manufacturers' specifications.

Key responsibilities

• Inspect, troubleshoot, and diagnose equipment faults using computerized testing tools.
• Repair or replace defective parts, adjust equipment, and perform welding as needed.
• Order parts, manage inventory, and keep detailed maintenance reports.
• Test repaired equipment for proper performance and verify emission control systems.
• Assist operators in mineral ore and metal processing and perform routine maintenance on attachments and tools.

Required profile

• Registered Apprenticeship certificate or equivalent experience in heavy‑equipment or diesel mechanics.
• Valid Class 1 (or Class 3) driver’s licence and relevant certifications such as Red Seal Agricultural Equipment Technician.
• Ability to work physically demanding tasks, handle loads up to 100 lb, and stand for extended periods.
• Willingness to relocate, travel cross‑border, and live on‑site if required.

Required skills

• Diesel engine repair (fuel injection, exhaust, cooling, air‑conditioning, lubrication, engine control).
• Hydraulic system maintenance and repair of powered attachments, compressors, and pumps.
• Welding and metal fabrication.
• Mechanical transmissions, drive trains, power take‑offs, and hydraulic transmissions.
• Brake, suspension, steering, and tire/wheel maintenance for both on‑road and off‑road vehicles.
