General Assistant – Customer Service & Checkout

About the role

The General Assistant supports the Cashier Department by delivering friendly, fast, and accurate service to shoppers. You will help keep the store tidy, assist customers with packing, and ensure checkout stations run smoothly.

Key responsibilities

• Greet customers with a smile and provide enthusiastic service.
• Maintain cleanliness and proper placement of shopping baskets and trolleys.
• Restock returned merchandise, process fresh and frozen goods, and minimize shortages.
• Offer proper packing, separating items by weight, temperature, and type.
• Perform fast, accurate checkout, detect fraud, and handle PLU entry and scanning.
• Monitor checkout stations for cleanliness and functionality.
• Stay informed about product locations and in‑store promotions, and assist other departments with customer queries.

Required profile

• Flexible to work varied shifts, including evenings, weekends, and statutory holidays.
• Ability to stand for long periods and use work‑related tools safely.
• Basic knowledge of workplace safety, Canadian currency, and essential mathematics.
• Prior cash‑handling experience is preferred.
