Financial Controller – Director of Finance

About the role

Our client, a well‑established design‑build and custom construction firm, is seeking a senior finance leader to act as Financial Controller/Director of Finance. You will partner closely with the General Manager and senior leaders to drive financial stability, operational excellence, and strategic growth.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee the full accounting function, including financial reporting, budgeting, payroll, accounts payable/receivable, and compliance.
• Provide financial guidance and strategic insights to the General Manager and senior leadership team.
• Lead month‑end and year‑end close processes, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and adherence to accounting standards.
• Manage cash‑flow forecasting, budgeting, variance analysis, and performance reporting.
• Support construction operations through accurate job costing and work‑in‑progress reporting.
• Strengthen internal controls, accounting policies, and financial processes to improve efficiency and mitigate risk.

Required profile

• 8+ years of progressive accounting and financial management experience, including senior‑level finance leadership.
• Degree in Accounting, Finance or related field; CPA designation considered an asset.
• Strong understanding of general ledger functions, financial reporting, budgeting, and month‑end/year‑end close.
• Experience in construction, renovation, or project‑based environments preferred.
• Advanced proficiency with accounting software and financial reporting tools.
• Exceptional analytical, organizational, and leadership abilities with keen attention to detail.
• Excellent communication and relationship‑building skills across all organizational levels.
