Financial Analyst

About the role

The University of British Columbia is seeking a Financial Analyst to support the Director of Finance and senior analysts in managing the financial processes of the Academic Finance portfolio within the Faculty of Medicine. This role involves close collaboration with unit heads, faculty, staff and students to ensure effective resource allocation and financial stewardship.

Key responsibilities

• Support the Director of Finance and senior analysts in overseeing financial processes for departments, schools, centres and institutes.
• Perform independent core accounting functions, including month‑end and year‑end activities.
• Plan, monitor and report on budgets, develop financial control systems and conduct cost‑analysis.
• Manage various funds, address deficits, and prepare comprehensive financial reports.
• Provide financial analysis and recommendations for budget negotiations with industry sponsors.

Required profile

• Relevant degree or equivalent experience in finance, accounting or a related field.
• Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with unit heads, faculty, staff and students.
• Strong analytical mindset with attention to detail.
