Field Safety Advisor

About the role

The Transmission group is seeking a Field Safety Advisor to support the Wasoqonatl Transmission Line project in Amherst, Nova Scotia. Reporting to the Regional Safety Supervisor, you will be the primary safety resource on‑site, ensuring Valard’s safety culture is applied and maintained throughout daily operations.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain a visible safety presence in the field and support employees, contractors and visitors according to the Site Safety Management Plan.
• Coach and communicate safety expectations to field staff and assist supervisors and foremen with incident investigations and root‑cause analysis.
• Lead daily tailboard meetings, conduct observations, inspections and emergency drills, and communicate findings in safety meetings.
• Facilitate weekly safety meetings, capture minutes and prepare weekly/monthly safety reports.
• Support the development and review of Job Safety Analyses (JSAs) and ensure they are available on‑site.
• Apply Valard’s Health, Safety and Environmental Manual and stay current with provincial legislation (Nova Scotia and New Brunswick).

Required profile

• Post‑secondary education in a related field.
• Minimum 5 years of construction site safety experience.
• National Construction Safety Officer (NCSO) or Canadian Registered Safety Technician (CRST) certification.
• Valid driver’s licence with a clean abstract.
• Familiarity with Nova Scotia and New Brunswick safety legislation.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
