Field Operations Assistant (Part‑time)

About the role

The Field Operations Assistant supports daily activities at the Macdonald Campus Farm/Horticulture Centre. This part‑time position involves hands‑on farm work, market sales, and data collection for research plots. The role reports to the Chief Horticulture Technician.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare soil, pick rocks, seed, transplant and prune plants.
• Operate a tractor for basic field tasks.
• Harvest fruits and vegetables and assist at the Mac Market counter.
• Collect and record data from research plots.
• Perform general farm duties such as hoeing and maintaining equipment.
• Carry out any additional tasks assigned by the Chief Horticulture Technician.

Required profile

• High school diploma (minimum).
• Minimal or no prior experience; willingness to learn.
• Authorized to work in Canada and able to work in Quebec.
• Basic proficiency in English (verbal and written).

Required skills

• Ability to operate basic farm equipment, including a tractor.
• Physical stamina for outdoor manual labor.
• Basic data‑recording skills.

What we offer

• Hourly wage of $18.00 (CAD).
• 35‑hour work week on a seasonal basis (September – November 2026).
• Experience in horticulture and exposure to university research environments.
