Field Inspector – Grain Grading

About the role

Join SGS as a Field Inspector focused on grain grading. You will work on a rotating 24/7 schedule, handling sample collection, laboratory analysis, and reporting to ensure compliance with Canadian grain regulations.

Key responsibilities

• Log, organize, store, distribute, and dispose of incoming grain samples.
• Clean grain samples using dockage carters and sieves, then prepare them for grading.
• Pick up and deliver samples between field locations and the office.
• Operate, maintain, and calibrate laboratory equipment such as moisture meters, scales, dockage testers, protein testers, and ELISA readers.
• Perform analyses including moisture, protein, dockage, test weight, mycotoxins, germination, and other branch‑specific tests.
• Monitor laboratory supplies and keep work areas clean.
• Follow Canada Grain Act, CFIA protocols, CGC standards, SGS SOPs, and client specifications.
• Issue initial and final inspection reports for food, container, and industrial inspections.

Required profile

• Minimum High School diploma.
• Valid driver’s license.
• Ability to work rotating shifts (8‑12 hours) including nights and weekends.
• Willingness to travel 2‑3 days at a time.
• 1‑3 years of experience in a laboratory or agricultural setting is an asset.
