Executive Director (Nonprofit)

About the role

The Executive Director leads Riseup Society Alberta, a mission‑driven nonprofit that provides trauma‑informed counselling, elder‑abuse prevention, and community education for individuals affected by intimate partner violence. Reporting to the Board, the ED steers strategic growth, financial sustainability, and the development of Rise Coffee, a social‑enterprise supporting core services.

Key responsibilities

• Implement and steward the organization’s strategic plan while balancing innovation and operational discipline.
• Serve as the primary liaison between the Board of Directors and staff, preparing board materials and facilitating meetings.
• Develop, monitor, and report on the annual budget, ensuring strong financial controls and compliance.
• Lead fundraising and revenue‑diversification initiatives, including grant writing, donor engagement, corporate sponsorships, and municipal partnerships.
• Oversee the growth and mission alignment of Rise Coffee, the organization’s social‑enterprise.
• Identify partnership opportunities and service‑expansion possibilities that maintain mission integrity.

Required profile

• Proven senior leadership experience in a nonprofit or mission‑focused organization.
• Demonstrated ability to build trust with a Board and navigate complex governance dynamics.
• Strong judgment, relational intelligence, and capacity to make real‑time decisions.
• Experience in financial stewardship, budgeting, and fund development.
• Passion for supporting survivors of intimate partner violence and advancing community healing.

• Competitive salary range of $75,000‑$90,000 CAD per year.
