Executive Director – Alberta

About the role

The Executive Director, Alberta will provide senior leadership for Taproot’s Child and Family Services and Persons with Developmental Disabilities sectors throughout the province. Reporting directly to the CEO and based in Edmonton, the role combines strategic vision with hands‑on operational oversight to ensure high‑quality, sustainable community services.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and execute strategic plans for Alberta CFS and PDD programs, aligning them with organisational priorities and community needs.
• Oversee service quality, accreditation, compliance with contracts, policies and relevant standards.
• Identify and pursue growth opportunities, including new funding sources, RFPs, partnerships and program expansions.
• Manage fiscal stewardship, budgeting and financial reporting for the Alberta portfolio.
• Build and maintain relationships with stakeholders, Indigenous communities, local Elders, Knowledge Keepers, funders and partner agencies.
• Lead, mentor and develop senior and front‑line staff, fostering a collaborative and high‑performing culture.
• Travel approximately 20 % of the time to support sites across Northern Alberta and strengthen community partnerships.

Required profile

• Extensive senior‑level leadership experience in non‑profit, social‑service or community‑based organisations.
• Demonstrated ability to manage complex operations, budgets and multi‑site programs.
• Strong understanding of child and family services and services for persons with developmental disabilities.
• Experience engaging respectfully with Indigenous peoples, including First Nations and Métis communities.
• Excellent communication, relationship‑building and change‑management skills.
